Search Engine Marketing Intern
Supervisor: Search Engine SpecialistWhat is the overall purpose and objective of this position?Search engine marketing is a rapidly growing field which more businesses are seeing as the most cost-effective method of selling products and services to e-commerce customers. Very few courses are available to learn this career; many current professionals are self-taught, learning on the job.
This position provides an opportunity to learn search engine marketing hands-on with real clients. The search engine marketing intern will learn how to implement search engine optimization on commercial sites, manage a search engine advertising campaign and evaluate the effects of this effort.
This position will teach what methods are effective and how this can be demonstrated to clients.
The objective is to expand knowledge of search engine requirements for promotional purposes, which can then be used to further our clients' promotional efforts.
This position also assists in researching tactics, create strategic web promotional programs and maintain client accounts, and learn new ways of optimizing clients' sites.

What are the major responsibilities of the position, and what percentage of time should they take?Assist in promotional efforts in promoting (optimizing pages) of client's web sites.
On-going research of new search engine tactics.
On-going research for each keyword phrase.
Self-motivation and patience getting results.
Ability to write advanced sentence and paragraph writing.
Ability to maintain and balance client budgets.
Launch and management of pay-per-click campaigns.
Creation of reports and analysis of campaign results.
Is this position supervised in any way?Yes, to monitor funds used and ensure all appropriate steps are being followed to maximize client benefits.
Does this position have supervisory responsibility (i.e., responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals)?No
Does this position have access to confidential information?Yes, client site information, under the supervision of the Search Engine Specialist.
Does this position have access to or handle company funds?Yes, under the supervision of the Search Engine Specialist.
Is it important to this position to be able to communicate fluently in English?Yes
What kind of work experience, training and/or level of education is necessary for this position? Any other special training and/or abilities?A qualified candidate for this position will have a working knowledge of HTML and an understanding of basic web design.
Knowledge of the Internet; how to use search engines and directories highly desired.
Strong communication, organization and customer service skills.
Candidates should have a degree or coursework towards a degree in marketing, internet technology, business or related field.
Experience managing internet promotional campaigns preferred, but not necessary.
Any required technical skills (typing, computer skills, etc.)?Familiar with databases.
Able to create web pages using HTML as well as DreamWeaver and be familiar with the upload and testing of web sites.
Familiarity with Microsoft office, including Excel is required.
An understanding of statistics and the ability to interpret reports is desirable.
Minimum 40wpm typing skills.
Knowledge of meta tag information, search algorithms and all aspects of search technology preferred.
Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, ASP and any other programming language is a plus.
Are there any particular working conditions associated with this position that should be noted (i.e., environment, hours, travel, work space, etc.)?While required overtime hours are few and far between in general, overtime can and will be required at times to complete necessary tasks.
Physical Demands of PositionThe occasional (10% or less) need to assist others in heavy lifting (> 50 lbs) may arise, as we are a small company with no maintenance staff to assist in furniture and other object relocation.
