Pro-Bono Work: C.A.T.'s New Cradle
RosArt has brought local theatre to the Internet, through providing the San Diego-based Community Actors Theatre (C.A.T.) with a complete $30,000 web site (www.communityactorstheatre.com). The site, which was built on a pro-bono basis, includes online ticket purchasing, regular updates of the C.A.T. play list, theater history, and photographs. Jennie L. Hamilton, the director and "soul" of C.A.T, graciously organized and held a web site Launch Party, naming RosArt a "Super Benefactor" of the theater.

RosArt introduced the Community Actors Theatre to the Business Volunteers for the Arts, of which Jos Rosa and Tom Hedges of RosArt are members. The B.V.A is a program designed by the San Diego Performing Arts League to match willing business leaders with non-profit arts programs in need of their assistance.

RosArt is also working with the B.V.A to form a committee that will create business plans, marketing plans, and grant proposals for organizations that need them. "We are pleased and proud to be connected in a vital way with the performing arts community. 'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are,' is the ideal we try to live by," says RosArt CEO Rosa.

Founded in 1982, C.A.T. is a non-profit, all-volunteer—and the only African American owned and operated—theatrical troupe dedicated to providing drama and a creative outlet in San Diego. The organization has staged over 130 adult and youth dramas, comedies, and musical productions, along with providing instructive workshops. Performances are staged in the home theater on 54th Street, however the company also travels to other venues such as schools, churches, senior homes and libraries. The new web site is a modern spin on a grass roots effort to bring the community together in a creative setting.

"It is our duty as a local company to help our community stay strong and grow," says Rosa. "Giving non-profit minority arts groups like the Community Actors Theatre some help is our way of doing that."
