Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk, LLP: San Diego's Good Guys
by Alexandra Pallas
The oldest plaintiff's law firm in San Diego, Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk, LLP is dedicated to providing justice for injured persons and protection of victims' rights. Its lawyers have outstanding credentials and abilities in all litigation areas, including Personal Injury, Business Torts, Medical Malpractice, Employment Law, the Federal Employee Liability Act, Maritime Law, Environmental Law, and Products Liability.

CGR&S makes clear the positive influence that lawyers can have on society, giving a glimmer of hope—and ultimately, justifiable compensation—to those who have been afflicted by wrong doers. This is a profession that requires dealing with clients on an intimate and emotional level, within a harsh and sometimes ruthless world.

As far apart as the fields of law and multimedia production appear to be, RosArt Multimedia and Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk, LLP have a few things in common. CGR&S brings experience, integrity, and reputation to its field and to its community. The RosArt team strives for the same, and holds tremendous respect for organizations that bear such attributes. A four and a half year long professional relationship between RosArt and CGR&S has cultivated a strong bond based on mutual benefit and faith, and an endless reciprocity that propels each organization forward.

RosArt Multimedia, Inc.™ Director of Marketing Tom Hedges brought CGR&S to RosArt with him in 1998, driving the law firm's business into a new sphere: the Internet. At that time, the firm functioned out of an old tradition of non-advertising, as a means of dissociating itself from firms perceived as television's 3 a.m. "ambulance chasers." The web, however, provided a new way to bring those who were already looking for representation directly to CGR&S. The first step was to build a simple site, to give the firm a humble online presence strong enough for potential clients to easily access information about the firm. A more complex site with links and applications was later developed as the site drew in more traffic.

Casey, Gerry, Reed, & Schenk, LLP contracted RosArt to ride the wave of cutting edge creativity, technological innovation, and progressive thinking. It was in this context that RosArt developed and implemented a Search Engine Optimization plan, which (at the time) was a process not yet clearly identified, utilized, or regarded as an industry standard in the multimedia world. As a part of this experimentation, RosArt put into place an online promotional campaign—and later a custom Pay Per Click plan—for the firm's Fen-Phen case. It was during this high priority, time-pressured situation that RosArt helped the firm pull in more than 2,500 new contacts within four months.

Established in 1947, CGR&S has earned a national reputation for its outstanding accomplishments and abilities. Members have been named by San Diego Magazine as the best lawyers in San Diego in personal injury, asbestos, and products liability, and twice been recognized as the San Diego Trial Lawyer of the Year. Further, in 2002, California Gov. Gray Davis appointed firm senior partner Frederick Schenk to the Del Mar Fair Board.

David Casey Jr., a senior partner with the firm, has been honored with a San Diego Mediation Center's Peacemaker award and the Author E. Hughes Career Achievement Award. Attorney Thomas Penfield received a President's Star Award from Consumer Attorneys of San Diego in acknowledgment of initiating and sustaining a college scholarship fund that grants three scholarships totaling $2,000 to student winners of an essay-writing contest.

What's more, David Casey, Jr. will become the national President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) this summer. Casey was a key player in the ATLA moratorium on lawsuits concerning the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. He was also involved in the creation of what is known as a "MegaFirm" (www.hermanmathis.com), when CGR&S joined four other top firms in the U.S. in order to take on high-profile consumer cases against corporate defendants.

CGR&S has obtained multiple awards and settlements in excess of $1 million. The firm was involved in helping to obtain more than $5 billion from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska, and also successfully represented CA Governor Gray Davis in the Tobacco Litigation that ended in a $25 billion settlement on behalf of the people of the State of California. The firm is also involved in a case to compensate POWs who were forced into slavery by Japanese corporations during World War II. (www.hermanmathis-slavelabor.com)

These really are the good guys.

The web site design, development, hosting, and promotion done by RosArt for Casey, Gerry, Reed, and Schenk, LLP, have not only benefited the law firm's own changing business, but have also helped to drive RosArt far ahead of the curve in the multimedia field. This has truly been a "win-win" experience.
